A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman was found dead at a house.
The 72-year-old was discovered by emergency services responding to a concern for welfare report on Pearson Street, Macclesfield, at about 18:50 BST on Friday, Cheshire Police said.
A post-mortem examination has since found she died from several injuries to her head and neck.
A 49-year-old man remains in police custody for questioning.
Det Insp Eli Atkinson said he wanted to “reassure residents” that officers believed this was an “isolated incident”.
He said the investigation would continue in the area, with “searches likely to take place” so there would be “an increased police presence”.
