A Multihog in action in south Shropshire
Shropshire Council’s two Multihog road planer machines will be tackling potholes on roads across Shropshire in the coming weeks.
The Multevo Multihog planes off the road surface to enable a squared-off hole to be filled by a following gang. It’s quicker than having to saw-cut and break-out the defective road by hand – tackling potholes and other defects more quickly and effectively.
In June and July [2025] the Multihogs and their crews are set to treat the following roads.

- Monday 16 to Tuesday 17 June – Wood Lane, Marchamley Wood
- Wednesday 18 to Friday 20 June – Holly Coppice Crossroads to Haughton (Section 1)
- Monday 23 to Friday 27 June – Holly Coppice Crossroads to Upton Magna (Section 2)
- Friday 27 June to Tuesday 1 July – Uffington to Upton Magna
- Tuesday 1 to Monday 7 July – Booley Road to Stanton Heath
- Tuesday 8 to Thursday 10 July – A49 junction, Stapleton to Exfords Green
- Thursday 10 July – B4380 Emstrey Bank
- Friday 11 to Wednesday 23 July – Stapleton to Moat
- Thursday 24 July – Newport Road, Albrighton
- Thursday 24 to Wednesday 30 July – Ash Road, Whitchurch
Multihog 2
- Monday 16 June – Whitecroft Road, Shrewsbury
- Tuesday 17 June to Friday 4 July – Nantmawr to B4396 junction
- Wednesday 2 to Tuesday 15 July – Condover Green to Cantlop Crossroads
- Friday 11 July – Tan-y-coed junction to Clwyd Boundary Derwen Deg
- Monday 14 to Tuesday 15 July – County Boundary to Cragllywn junction
- Wednesday 16 to Thursday 17 July – Pentregear Issa to Croesan Bach
- Friday 18 July – A495, Llansaintfraid Road
- Monday 21 to Wednesday 30 July – B4397, Burlton to Loppington
All work is carried out between 9.30am and 4pm, on weekdays only.
David Vasmer, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for highways and environment, said:
“Our teams are working hard to repair potholes across the county and the Multihog is playing an important part in this – helping us improve the county’s roads, and make them safer for all road users. I’m looking forward to seeing one in action, and inspecting its work, in the near future.”
Each Multihog can treat 9,000m² of road each month, reduces the likelihood of potholes forming in the short-to-medium term, and cuts down on the need for road closures..
