Further tributes have been released to a young police officer who died when he was struck by a car when responding to a road crash.

Northamptonshire Police said PC Faizaan Najeeb, 24, was attending a single-vehicle crash on Station Road, Raunds, at 00:35 BST on 19 September when he was hit by a Volkswagen Polo. He died in hospital on Friday.

The police force for Bedfordshire, where Mr Najeeb previously worked as a PCSO, said he would be “sorely missed”, adding: “His ability to lift spirits was infectious, and he was always so happy.”

A man in his 20s, who was arrested at the scene of the crash, was later released on bail.

The officer joined Bedfordshire Police in February 2021, working with the Bedford Community Policing Team.

He later joined the neighbouring Northamptonshire force in May 2022, serving with the response team in Wellingborough.

His former colleagues in Bedford, said: “Those that knew him are absolutely devastated by his death, and he will be sorely missed.

“Faizaan would do anything for anyone, and although he was only with us for a short time, his legacy and impact on those that worked with him remains.”

A two-minute silence is due to take place this week at the Wootton Hall headquarters in Northampton.

His collar number P1967 has been retired in his memory.

Northamptonshire chief constable, Ivan Balhatchet, previously said: “Words cannot describe the sadness felt when an officer loses his life serving in the line of duty.

“The entire Northamptonshire Police family wish to pass on our deepest condolences to his family and friends at this truly awful point in time.

“Colleagues from the serious collision investigation unit are still investigating the collision, and specialist family liaison officers will continue to support Faizaan’s family in the coming days and weeks.”

An internal health and safety investigation was also being carried out.
