  • Fans had gathered in thousands around the stadium ahead of victory parade
  • But the numbers grew out of control and people tried to scramble up walls
  • More than 10 people have tragically died including a woman and child

More than 10 people have died in horrifying scenes following a stampede in India prior to the IPL victory celebrations.

RCB (Royal Challengers Bangalore) won the T20 competition and fans gathered outside the stadium in their thousands ahead of the victory parade.

In scenes of sheer panic, fans tried to scale the walls and gates at Chinnaswamy Stadium, with more than 10 fans dead including a woman and boy, according to The Indian Express.

In excess of 50 fans were injured and there are fears that the death toll could rise when the full picture becomes clear.

It is currently unknown what triggered the stampede but police outside the stadium had to perform a ‘lathi charge’, running at the crowd with batons in order to disperse them.

Some attempted to give victims CPR outside the stadium and ambulances struggled to take those affected to hospital given the vast crowds and traffic.
