Jose Mourinho may be best known for his antics on the touchline, but on Thursday he was quick to share some footage from his work on the training pitch, getting involved in a possession drill with some painful consequences.
The Fenerbahce boss caught the headlines once more with his blockbuster press conference ahead of the Turkish side’s Europa League clash with his former club earlier this month.
With Man United struggling for consistency and form early on in the campaign, then-boss Erik ten Hag was unable to steer his side to victory, with the Red Devils once again drawing from a winning position in the competition.
Since joining the Istanbul-based Turkish giants Mourinho has managed a solid job, with his team in third eight points behind arch rivals Galatasaray but with a game in hand.
But the Portuguese manager offered a rare insight into his training, posting a clip on his Instagram account with a light-hearted caption warning his fellow coaches of the dangers of wearing the same colours as his team.
Jose Mourinho was tackled by one of his players during a possession drill in training
Seemingly in some pain, he stayed down after the contact with his players waving for some physio attention
He was quickly attended to and helped off the pitch by his players and some of his colleagues
The clip saw his players taking part in what appeared to be a defence vs attack, possession and phase-building based drill in training.
While his charges were working the ball around, he could be seen marching through the middle of the drill to get a different view of how his team moves in possession and offer instructions, before the ball was passed his direction.
Crucially, he was wearing a black and white top with black bottoms, with his team split into two groups; those in black tops and shorts, and those with orange bibs and black shorts.
As such, there was seemingly some confusion. With one of his players on the ball, another crossed paths with the boss, bringing the 61-year-old down to the ground in the process.
Mourinho took a painful-looking tumble and seemed in some discomfort as he stayed down, with his players gesturing for some physio attention.
Eventually he got back up to his feet and hobbled off the pitch for closer inspection, but needed the help of his colleagues and players to help him off the field.
But despite the painful mishap, Mourinho clearly saw the funny side of things, posting the clip on his Instagram with the caption: ‘Lesson to young coaches: “Never wear same colour as players”…they can pass you the ball….or kick you from behind’.
A number of Mourinho’s former players were quick to comment on the video, but none seemed overly concerned for his welfare.
