Texas Rangers star Patrick Corbin almost missed their win over the LA Angels in bizarre circumstances on Wednesday night after being bitten by an unknown venomous animal.
After earning his first victory of the season, Corbin opened up on the terrifying health scare which had left him struggling to walk two days before his start against the Angels at Globe Life Field.
The left-hander revealed Texas medical staff told him he had ‘venom’ in his foot from an apparent bite, despite not knowing which animal could have caused it.
‘They said something bit me, but I still don’t know what it was,’ he told reporters Thursday, via ESPN. ‘I’ve never had anything like that. It was super weird.’
Corbin was eventually cleared to play against the Angels, giving up one run in five-and-a-half innings as the Rangers picked up a 3-1 win on the night.
Texas manager Bruce Bochy had described his chances of taking part as ’50/50′ because of the condition of his ankle, which became swollen due to the bite on his foot.

Corbin, who doesn’t know which animal bit him, still played against the LA Angels Wednesday
Fortunately the pain became ‘tolerable’ after he had his ankle wrapped, allowing him to line up against LA on Wednesday.
‘It was really bad in the morning,’ Corbin admitted. ‘Just a really swollen foot. I wasn’t sure if I was going to throw that morning.
‘My wife was really concerned. I came in early [Wednesday] to get some treatment going and [went] from there.’
Corbin, a two-time All-Star entering his 13th MLB season and first with the Rangers, did not feature in Thursday’s game against the Angels.
‘I was fortunate to get through yesterday,’ he said. ‘I have some time to recover and be good to go.’
