  • NRL great has become a dad for the first time

Former NRL star Mitchell Pearce has revealed his joy at becoming a father for the first time, having significantly turned his life around over the last few years.

The former Roosters playmaker revealed the happy news on Instagram, posting photos of himself and with daughter Alyia Pearce, who was born on Friday.

‘Alyia Pearce 4/9’ he posted alongside a love heart emoji.

The 36-year-old, who resides in France these days, also praised his partner.

‘It’s the best feeling in the world,’ Pearce told News Corp.

‘I’m in awe of my partner and her strength and just want to be the best dad that I can be.’

Friends, family and fans were quick to congratulate him on the new arrival.

‘My brother! How beautiful for you mate. I’m so happy for you,’ posted footy star Kieran Foran.

‘How good king,’ replied Knights player Kalyn Ponga.

‘Congratulations brother. So epic and so happy for you,’ said Moses Mbye.

Pearce began his rugby league career with the Sydney Roosters in 2007 when he was just a teenager and quickly rose to the top of the playmaking standings, picked to represent NSW in the 2008 State of Origin series.

He retired in 2023 at the conclusion of Catalans’ 2023 Super League grand final loss against Wigan and has since returned to Australia to seek new opportunities after a stellar career that included 350 first-grade games.

Pearce had problems with alcohol at times throughout his career that saw him do a stint in rehab to sort himself out.

He moved from the Sydney Roosters to the Newcastle Knights in 2018, and in December of 2020 called off his wedding at almost the last minute after he was busted allegedly sending flirty texts to a female employee at the club.

Next was a move to France with Catalans in the Super League for two seasons, which Pearce believes was a career-defining moment.
