Kentucky U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell has been hospitalized, according to his office.

The 84-year-old was admitted to a hospital Sunday morning and “is receiving excellent care,” a spokesperson said.

It wasn’t immediately made public why he was taken to the hospital.

McConnell has suffered a series of health issues in recent years and was hospitalized for eight days earlier this year for flu-like symptoms.

He suffered injuries from falls and left the public concerned when his face briefly froze while he was speaking.

McConnell is the longest-serving Senate party leader in U.S. history. He said last February that he would not seek reelection and will retire when his term ends in January 2027.
