Miley Cyrus is celebrating the 20th anniversary of her iconic Disney Channel show, Hannah Montana, with her father, Billy Ray Cyrus, by her side.
The two reunited in the teaser trailer for the show’s forthcoming special, following rumors about their family’s rift due to Billy Ray’s split from Miley’s mother, Tish, in 2022. When Tish got remarried in 2023, Miley and her older siblings, Brandi, 38, and Trace, 37, were at the nuptials, but their younger siblings, Braison, 31, and Noah, 26, were not.
Rumors went on to swirl that Miley, 33, was estranged from her father after she failed to mention him during her acceptance speech at the 2024 Grammys and called her mother her “hero” months later. Miley broke her silence about the drama in May 2025, noting that while she and her dad had their “challenges,” they weren’t on bad terms.
Now, Billy Ray and Miley — who played father and daughter on the Disney Channel series — are publicly reuniting for the Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special, which airs March 24 on Disney+.
A teaser trailer released Tuesday included a brief cameo from the “Achy Breaky Heart” singer and his daughter — sporting her signature blonde Hannah Montana wig — who do a quick hip bump handshake while revisiting the show’s set.
“Some things never change…” Billy Ray — who is now dating Elizabeth Hurley — wrote on Instagram while sharing the teaser trailer. “20 years later and @mileycyrus still knows the old handshake trick.”
Billy Ray’s ex-wife, Tish, is also featured in the Disney+ special, with the teaser showing her walking through Hannah Montana’s iconic closet with Miley. Another snippet of the trailer showed the mother-daughter duo looking back on old photos from the show.
“This anniversary is for them, it’s for us,” Miley says, referring to her fans. “This feels like home to me.”
Hannah Montana, which ran from 2006 to 2011, followed teenager Miley Stewart (played by Miley) living a double life as both a high school student and world-famous pop star Hannah Montana, becoming the latter whenever she donned her signature blonde wig.

Filmed in front of a live studio audience, the Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special features an exclusive interview with Miley, hosted by Call Her Daddy podcaster Alex Cooper, as well as never-before-seen footage from the series.
Billy Ray’s appearance in the new Disney + special comes months after Miley released a ballad, titled “Secrets,” about their relationship.
“This song was written as a peace offering for someone I had lost for a time but always loved,” the “Wrecking Ball” singer wrote on Instagram in September, alongside a brief clip from the song’s music video. “In my experience, forgiveness and freedom are one and the same. Thank you to Lindsey Buckingham & Mick Fleetwood for bringing magic to the music.”
“This song is for my dad,” the caption concluded.
Miley addressed her relationship with both her parents in a May 2025 Instagram Story, where she detailed her bond with her mom and said she was getting closer to her father.
“I rarely comment on rumors, but my mama and I are too tight for anything to ever come between us,” her statement began. “She’s my best friend. Like a lot of moms, she doesn’t know how to work her phone and somehow unfollowed me — simple, coincidental, and uninteresting.”
“My dad and I have had our challenges over the years. Now, in my thirties, family is my priority above all else. I’m at peace knowing bridges have been built and time has done a lot of healing. Grateful for the good health and love that flows through my family.”
