Megan Thee Stallion has been hospitalised after falling ill midway through a Broadway performance of Moulin Rouge.
The 31-year-old, whose real name is Megan Pete, is currently starring as Zidler – the owner of the titular cabaret club – in the New York production of the musical.
The “Savage” rapper, who made her Broadway debut in the show last week, fell ill during Tuesday (31 March) night’s performance.
One fan who was in the audience wrote in a post on X: “The few opening scenes I saw her in she was great on stage! I was excited BUT… They just stopped moulin rouge mid show apologized to the audience and said ..’stay inside and seated’.
“I asked security if we’re safe .. they told us ‘for now, we’ll update you if anything changes’.” [sic]
Theatregoers were then told that the show would be resuming with an understudy stepping in for Megan Thee Stallion.

A Moulin Rouge spokesperson has now said in a statement: “During Tuesday night’s production, Megan started feeling very ill and was promptly transported to a local hospital, where her symptoms are currently being evaluated.
“We will share additional updates as more information becomes available.”
The Independent has contacted Megan’s representative for comment.

In a post on X, her hairstylist Kellon Deryck wrote: “Everyone say a prayer for Megan, we are all at the hospital.”
Megan is playing Zidler for a strictly limited eight-week run at the Al Hirschfield Theatre, which began on 24 March and is set to finish on 17 May.
The Grammy-winning star received rave reviews following her debut as Zidler and was praised by US publication People for “making the part distinctly her own” and “bringing a modern swagger to the Moulin Rouge that feels both unexpected and entirely welcome”.

When her role was announced, Megan said: “Stepping onto the Broadway stage and joining the Moulin Rouge! The Musical team is an absolute honour.
“I’ve always believed in pushing myself creatively and theatre is definitely a new opportunity that I’m excited to embrace.
“Broadway demands a different level of discipline, preparation and storytelling, but I’m up for the challenge and can’t wait for the Hotties [Megan’s nickname for her fans] to see a new side of me.”
