Matheus Cunha gives injury update with cryptic social media post after Man United forward suffered hamstring issue in Burnley win

Manchester United look to have been handed a major injury boost after Matheus Cunha teased an imminent return ahead of next weekend’s derby.

The forward was forced off during the first half of United’s pulsating 3-2 victory against Burnley before the international break with an apparent hamstring issue.

He was replaced by Joshua Zirkzee and walked straight down the tunnel, leaving boss Ruben Amorim to admit he was ‘concerned’ with the setback.

Cunha was spotted moving freely as he left Old Trafford following the final whistle, but he went on to withdraw from international duty with Brazil this week.

The 26-year-old, who joined United from Wolves in a £62million deal this summer, suggested he would be ‘back soon’ on social media, and he has now provided another timely update which may have supporters breathing a sigh of relief.

Sharing a photo of himself working out on an exercise bike, he wrote on Instagram, ‘The time is flying,’ alongside clock and dynamite emojis.

He then posted a snap of himself holding up a UFC wristband that read: ‘Obrigado pela moral’, which translates to ‘thanks for the moral’.

Despite his apparent early return to fitness, it remains unclear whether he will be available for the trip to Manchester City next weekend.

‘It was hard to lose Cunha and Mason Mount, because Mason Mount played 30 minutes with an injury,’ Amorim had told reporters.

‘I’m concerned about that, because they are so important for us. We will see.’

Amorim added: ‘I don’t know [how they are], I don’t know. We will check them. We need those guys really bad to be really competitive.’

To add to the head coach’s woes, Mason Mount did not emerge for the second half against Burnley after picking up a knock, and he was replaced by Kobbie Mainoo.

An official timeframe has not been placed on the midfielder’s recovery.

Mount has been undroppable this season, having started all three Premier League games so far, forcing new signing Benjamin Sesko to bide his time on the bench.
