Peter Greene’s family and friends held a private memorial service for the “Mask” star on Dec. 27, Page Six has learned.
Some of Greene’s closest friends — including “The Sopranos” star Federico Castelluccio, Vincent Young, Saul Stein, Garry Pastore, New York actor and musician Skam Dust and film producer Noel Ashman — were among the small crowd of “35 to 40 people” who gathered at St. Michael Church in Cranford, NJ, to pay their final respects, an insider shared.
Castelluccio, who starred alongside Greene in the 2019 film “Exit 0,” described the late star as, “one of the best character actors of his generation,” during an emotional speech that brought him and the room to tears, according to our source.
“Everyone shared a story, and everyone broke down crying. People loved him like a brother,” the insider said.
Greene was born in nearby Montclair, NJ, in 1965.
Greene was found dead at age 60 in his Lower East Side apartment in Manhattan on Dec. 13.
Greene’s longtime manager, Gregg Edwards, described the late star as being in “good spirits” when they last spoke, two days before his death.
His friend of 27 years, Skam Dust, also told us Greene was looking forward to celebrating New Year’s Eve.
“He was going to rent a truck limousine, and Peter’s vision was that we were going to go bar hopping and restaurant hopping. He wasn’t suicidal,” Skam Dust said.
Ashman, who hosted New Year’s Eve celebrations with Greene last year, said he was looking forward to round two.
“[His death] was definitely a shock. I was planning on seeing him on New Year’s Eve. No one expected this,” he said.
“He was a wonderful person… He was so talented and had so much more to do in acting. We lost a real talent for our generation,” Ashman said.
Cops have said that no foul play was suspected, but that a cause of death will be determined by the medical examiner, The Post previously reported.
A neighbor reportedly said Green was lying face down, with “blood everywhere,” when they found him.
A friend told us at the time that the actor’s pals “were always concerned” about his past drug use. “He would get clean, and he would try to get back to normal, and then couldn’t kick it,” they alleged.
(Greene had never shied away from his past drug use, and was outspoken about attempting suicide in 1996.)
We previously reported that Greene’s inner circle was seeking answers about his death.
Our insider confirmed, “there was trauma to the body for sure,” adding there’s still “a lot of speculation. We don’t know yet, only that there was trauma to his body,” they said.
