Martin Lewis has urged millions of Brits to act within the weeks to make sure they don’t miss a tax break deadline.
The Money Saving Expert founder explained that those who are married or in civil partnerships, and are under 90 years old, may be entitled to a £1,260 tax break called the Marriage Tax Allowance – something around 2 million couples in the UK miss out on.
If entitled, one of you can transfer that sum of money to the partner who earns more and gain £252 for this tax year. You may also be able to backdate for the previous four years and get an additional £1,000.
However, Mr Lewis warned that you need to act before 5 April to benefit from the tax break.
