Marseille target move for Liverpool defender, with Reds aiming to further boost £217m made from sales this summer

Marseille are the latest club to show interest in Liverpool’s Greek left-back Kostas Tsimikas.

The Reds have already made an impressive £217million from player sales during a summer of extraordinary change at the club.

It remains to be seen what kind of fee would be demanded for Tsimikas, who has spent five years at Anfield as back-up to Andy Robertson.

But French giants Marseille are interested in signing the 29-year-old, who is regarded as a stylistic fit for Roberto De Zerbi’s system.

Leeds previously held an interest, though that has cooled, while Nottingham Forest are also keeping tabs on him.

Tsimikas was left out of the matchday squad for Liverpool’s Community Shield defeat by Crystal Palace.

And he suffered the same fate for the Premier League opener, when Arne Slot opted to omit him from the group again.

Given the signing of Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth, Tsimikas is now behind the new first choice and Robertson.

Knowing his game time will be hugely limited, Tsimikas appears likely to enter the next chapter of his career away from Merseyside.

Tsimikas, who is affectionately known as the ‘Greek Scouser’ joined Liverpool for a fee of around £11.7m from Olympiacos in 2020.

Perhaps his most famous moment in a Liverpool shirt was when he helped Liverpool achieve FA Cup glory in 2022, slotting the decisive penalty during Liverpool’s final against Chelsea.

He was an able understudy to Robertson last term and if that season was indeed to be his last, the left-back will be fondly remembered by fans and team-mates alike.

Meanwhile, Marseille have put both Jonathan Rowe and Adrien Rabiot up for sale after a dressing room bust-up.

The pair came to blows after De Zerbi’s men lost to 10-man Rennes on the opening weekend of Ligue 1.

Quentin Merlin has already departed Marseille, replacing Adrien Truffert at Rennes, so there is a need for reinforcements at the back and Tsimikas could fit the bill.
