UCLA superstar Lauren Betts sat out several minutes of the women’s national championship game after appearing to suffer a mysterious issue with her throat.
During the first quarter of Sunday’s clash against the South Carolina Gamecocks, Betts could be seen hunched over on the bench coughing into a towel.
She appeared to be complaining to UCLA staff that something was stuck in her throat.
Betts was seen coughing and grimacing on the bench, while cameras also caught a member of medical staff seen examining inside her mouth.
She was given an inhaler and what appeared to be an energy gel before eventually returning to the game in the second quarter.
By then, UCLA had raced into an early lead after South Carolina failed to capitalize on Betts’ absence.
Even with the 22-year-old center struggling on the bench, Dawn Staley’s Gamecocks didn’t score a single point in the final 4:22 of the first quarter.
