Teenage starlet Marc Guiu made Champions League history for Chelsea in their match against Ajax on Wednesday night – only to see his record broken within the same half.

The 19-year-old has struggled to break into Enzo Maresca’s side after his emergency return from a loan spell on Sunderland at the start of the season, but is increasingly getting minutes as the 2025-26 campaign continues.

Handed his first Champions League start of the season, the striker was keen to impress.

And within 20 minutes, Guiu had done so, opening the scoring for the hosts to hand them the home lead.

At 19 years and 29 days, the La Masia graduate became the club’s youngest ever Champions League goalscorer.

But moments before the half-time whistle, Brazilian prodigal Estevao was handed a penalty opportunity by Enzo Fernandez – who had already scored from the spot on a wet night in west London.

Although taking his time with the run-up, Estevao found the back of the net, and at the age of 18 years and 181 days, crossed out Guiu’s name in the history books and wrote his own its place.

In the second-half, as Chelsea’s dominance in west London grew and the Blues went 5-1 up courtesy of 19-year-old Tyrique George.

Following contributions from the three young talents, Chelsea became the first side in the tournament’s history to see three different teens score for a side in one match.

Estevao has already burnishing his burgeoning Chelsea reputation by scoring the latest of winners against Liverpool ahead of the international break.

But former Barcelona player Guiu is equally keen to play as many minutes as he can.

Having previously envisaged a season of regular first-team football in the North East, Guiu was recalled following injuries among Chelsea’s attacking ranks.

‘(There was] never disappointment [at leaving Sunderland),’ Guiu said at the start of October. ‘I believe that every action I take in my career is because I want to.

‘And that’s it, I’m going to fight in every training session, in every game, every minute I have to play as many minutes as possible.’

Guiu reportedly spoke to Maresca shortly after his return to Stamford Bridge and asked him what he could do to play more in a bid to fight his way into the side.

The teenager has since enjoyed eye-catching cameos against Liverpool and Nottingham Forest.
