Manchester United are expected to resume talks with Atalanta for midfielder Ederson. The Italians are understood to be looking for a fee of £34.5million plus a further £4.3m in add-ons after seeing a deal with Atletico Madrid break down.

Ederson, 26, is keen to join and has long been identified as a player of interest by United. He may also be more achievable than some of their other midfield targets because of inflated valuations this summer.

They posted their interest earlier this year as they work through a number of options.

All the top Premier League sides are looking to strengthen in that position while United want at least two with Casemiro leaving and expected to join Inter Miami while Manuel Ugarte is attracting interest from Turkey and Ajax.

United would still require Brazil international Ederson and his representatives to fall in line with their wage structure with the going rate around £150,000 a week plus Champions League bonus payments.

Ederson, who was omitted from Carlo Ancelotti’s World Cup squad, has been one of Atalanta’s star performers in recent years but has one year left on his contract.

United have also discussed Nottingham Forest’s £90m-rated Elliot Anderson, who is expected to join Manchester City, West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes and Newcastle’s Sandro Tonali, though the latter’s valuation had dampened initial interest.

Aurelien Tchouameni is admired should he leave Real Madrid – who hold interest in Rodri at Manchester City and Sporting Lisbon’s Morten Hjulmand.

Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid are continuing talks to sign Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes and have joined the queue for City’s soon-to-be free agent Bernardo Silva.
