Manchester United failed in their bid to bring in another player on deadline day, according to reports.

The Red Devils were in the market for a midfielder having failed in their pursuit of Brighton’s Carlos Baleba earlier on in the summer transfer window.

Ruben Amorim’s side were reportedly keen on adding Stuttgart midfielder Angelo Stiller to their ranks, according to BILD, and may return with another bid for the player next summer.

A former Bayern Munich youth player, Stiller, 24, was said to want to stay at Stuttgart in order to be sure of regular game-time ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

He made 31 starts in the Bundesliga last season to give with eight Champions League matches as Stuttgart endured a disappointing 2024-25 by ending the campaign in ninth place and missing out on a European spot.

Stiller has also earned four senior caps for Germany having played at age-group level for Die Mannschaft since coming through the ranks at Bayern.

While United did fail to bring in a midfielder, they were eventually successful in their pursuit of another goalkeeper.

Amorim’s side agreed a deal worth £21.7m with Royal Antwerp for 23-year-old shot-stopper Senne Lammens.

Lammens has agreed a five year contract at Old Trafford and comes in to solve Amorim’s problem between the sticks.

A club statement read: ‘Manchester United is pleased to confirm that Senne Lammens has joined the club, subject to international clearance and registration.

‘The goalkeeper has signed a contract until June 2030. Lammens has already played 64 games for Royal Antwerp and helped them win the Belgian Super Cup in 2023. The 23-year-old was named in the Belgium national team squad for the first time in March.’

Lammens said: ‘I am extremely proud to be joining Manchester United, it is a real dream come true. The past few years have been an amazing journey, it’s now ended in an incredible destination and hopefully the beginning of something special.

‘You can feel the positive atmosphere that is being created h ere, and I know that I can make a real impact at the club in the coming years.

‘I cannot wait to get to know my team-mates and begin working with Ruben and the coaching staff.

‘This is the perfect place to keep developing, grow together with this exciting team and achieve my career objectives.’
