In-demand Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres has come to an agreement with the Portuguese over a summer transfer, a report has claimed.

The Swedish star, who penned a five-year deal with Sporting in 2023, reportedly has a verbal agreement in place that will allow him to leave for up £60million.

That fee would represent something of a bargain for the 26-year-old, given his remarkable exploits in the Portuguese top flight since his acquisition from Championship outfit Coventry City.

It would also come as a major boon to his raft of suitors, including Manchester United and Arsenal, who would reasonably be expecting to part with the £85m fee reported to be his release clause.

According to Sky Germany, Gyokeres could now be available for much less. Sporting are especially motivated to drive up the price for their sought-after star because of a sell-on clause held by the Sky Blues.

The report claims that the Gunners, Red Devils, Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City – which will soon be the home of Sporting’s sporting director Hugo Viana – have all been informed of the agreement.

The news comes a month after Sporting president Frederico Varandas played down the prospects of an exit for Gyokoeres.

‘Gyokeres was leaving in the summer, a year ago, a year and a half ago,’ he said. ‘Gyokeres was going to leave, anyway. We were champions and he was already leaving.

‘In January it was impossible and it remained so,’ he added. “I’m not going to add to it, it’s already very media-driven and it’s not worth talking about the summer market.’

Earlier this month, Portuguese outlet Record claimed that the striker had told the club of his desire to move at the end of the term.  Gyokeres has scored 40 goals in 41 matches in all competitions for Sporting this season, including netting 28 times in 25 league matches.

His goals have seen him move into Sporting’s top 20 goalscorers in the club’s history, despite having only joined the club in the summer of 2023. He has scored a staggering 83 goals in 91 appearances for the club since joining from Coventry in a £20m move.

A move to Old Trafford would see him reunited with his former boss Ruben Amorim.
