A man who died after being hit by a car was “a pillar of our family and community”, his loved ones have said.
Greater Manchester Police was called to Slade Lane in Manchester at about 20:10 BST on 9 June.
The force said a pedestrian, who has been named as Abul Kalam, 64, died shortly after.
A 78-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has been released on bail.
A tribute to Mr Kalam from his wife Farida Akhter and his family said: “Though he was taken from us in this brutal and tragic manner, the love and laughter he shared with every person he met will live on in the family and community he created everywhere he went.
“We as a family hold on to the fond memories of a life stolen, admired by so many, a pillar of our family and community.”
The family thanked Mr Kalam for “everything you gave us”, adding: “You gave even when you had nothing and that will be cherished eternally.”
Anyone with information about the crash has been asked to contact police.
