15 min: Garnacho links with Bruno down the left side before cutting a low ball into the box for Lacey in space, but the winger scuffs his first-time shot wide. The teenager is furious with himself, because that was a very good chance.

12 min: Bruno swings in a free-kick from the right which is met by Casemiro at the near post, but his header is blocked and United earn another corner. The next one runs out to Garnacho, who dribbles in from the left before firing a low shot at goal, but it’s well saved.

The rain is absolutely teeming down in Hong Kong right now.

8 min: Hong Kong are struggling to get out of their own half, which perhaps isn’t that surprising considering they are the 153rd ranking nation in the world.

5 min: Disallowed! Casemiro heads home a Bruno free-kick, but he’s ruled just offside. The replay suggest he was just off.

2 min: United are quickly on the attack, looking to break down the deep-set Hong Kong defence. Amass and Kamason hace looked lively in the wing-back roles so far, but no clear chances.

The big question this week is whether Cunha will team up with Bruno Fernandes. Fernandes is understood to be seriously considering a move to Saudi Arabia following an approach by Al Hilal.

Manchester United, left with more questions after a torrid campaign, could look at the numbers and see that Matheus Cunha scored 15 Premier League goals last season. It is more than double the combined haul of Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee. They could add in the efforts of Marcus Rashford, Mason Mount and Antony in United shirts and still have fewer than Cunha had mustered by the end of February.

Or they might just be rationalising that it was a hefty price to pay to spare them some embarrassment. Because, in different ways and in the last two seasons, Cunha has contrived to show up his future employers.
