  • Lisandro Martinez has no interest in joining Serie A champions Napoli
  • The Argentina international is still recovering from a cruciate ligament injury
  • Manchester United are in the midst of a summer rebuild after a dismal season

Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez has no desire to join Napoli despite links with the Italian champions.

The Argentina international is recovering from a cruciate ligament injury and is on course to return for pre-season training with the hope of making a first team comeback in September.

Napoli are understood to be exploring opportunities for bargains in the market and appreciate Manchester United are open to selling players in this window as they plot a rebuild under Ruben Amorim and without the extra funds of European football.

Martinez has been identified as a name under consideration but Mail Sport understands the 27-year old is determined to stay and succeed at Old Trafford even if Champions League clubs come knocking this summer.

The combative centre-back has a good relationship with Amorim and is viewed as one of the leaders in the United group.

The World Cup winner will be leaned upon for his experience going forward with a number of more senior players departing as part of Amorim’s re-shaping.

Matheus Cunha has joined from Wolves and talks are ongoing to buy Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford but United also want to add a striker and are assessing a number of targets.

Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Antony are all looking to leave and could be followed by Alejandro Garnacho, Kobbie Mainoo, Rasmus Hojlund and Andre Onana to help generate funds.
