Manchester United are keeping faith in Ruben Amorim and have not changed their position that he is the right man for the job despite losing the Europa League final.

United’s miserable season, which Amorim has headed up since November, hit a new low with an abject performance in Bilbao to lose 1-0 against Tottenham Hotspur.

Heading into the game, United sources stressed there was no plan to replace Amorim and it’s understood their position remains unchanged despite losing in Bilbao.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe and multiple members of the Glazer family were in attendance at San Mames to see the latest United horror show.

But senior figures at United are keeping faith in Amorim, who was pressed into joining mid-season by CEO Omar Berrada, despite his preference to join this summer.

United sources have also rejected a suggestion that they needed to talk Amorim around from quitting back in January following defeat to Brighton.

But his own comments after the final left the door open for the club to oust him if their position had in any way changed.

‘I have nothing to show to the fans, so in this moment it is a little bit of faith [that is required],’ he said.

‘Let’s see [on the future]. Like I said before, I am always open.

‘If the board and fans feel that I am not the right guy, I will go in the next day without any conversation about compensation, but I will not quit.

‘I am really confident on my job and as you see I will not change nothing in the way I do things.’
