Manchester United are keen on signing Borussia Dortmund star Felix Nmecha, according to reports.

The Red Devils will be looking to freshen up their squad during the summer window after a largely disappointing campaign in Ruben Amorim’s season at the club.

United were linked with a potential move for Amorim’s former Sporting Lisbon star Geovany Quenda, however they’ve been beaten to the punch by Chelsea.

Now, it’s emerged that United have turned their attention to Germany and are ‘chasing’ a potential deal for Dortmund star Nmecha, according to Bild.

As it stands, the German giants are set to miss out on a place in the Champions League next season and will be forced to part ways with at least one of their stars.

This could play into United’s favour who are keen on signing the £40m-rated defensive midfielder during the summer window.

Despite Dortmund’s struggles in the season, Nmecha has been a shining light for the Bundesliga side, having made 27 appearances across all competitions.

During those matches he’s recorded three goals and two assists however has caught the eye for his composure and quick thinking in the heart of midfield.

However, Dortmund view Nmecha as an important player for the future, according to the German outlet, and would be hesitant to part ways with him.

The likes of Gregor Kobel, Jamie Gittens and Karim Adeyemi could all be sold ahead of Nmecha, in order for Dortmund to keep hold of the highly-rated 24-year-old.

As it stands, Nmecha is currently out of action – and has been for seven weeks – due to a ligament injury, however returned to light training last week.

Should Nmecha make a move to Old Trafford, he’d need to win over the hearts of United supporters, who will be well aware of his ties to rivals Man City.

The midfielder, along with his brother Lukas, came through the City academy before leaving to join German side Wolfsburg in 2021.

Meanwhile, reports have also claimed that United have drawn up a four-man shortlist as they look to strengthen in attacking areas this summer.

According to Sky’s Florian Plettenberg, four strikers are said to have caught the club’s eye, including Viktor Gyokeres of Sporting Lisbon.

The other names on the list are Hugo Ekitike of Eintracht Frankfurt, Benjamin Sesko of RB Leipzig and Victor Osimhen of Napoli, but on loan at Galatasaray.

United’s top scorer in the league this season is captain Bruno Fernandes, who has hit form in recent weeks but still managed only eight Premier League goals in total. Second is Amad Diallo with six, but he is out injured for the rest of the season.

The club are understood to be keen to do business in the summer, with Patrick Dorgu and Ayden Heaven the only two players signed to help Amorim in the winter.

It is unclear how much to club will be able to spend to comply with FFP rules, with aims for a new £2billion stadium revealed last week.

Still, there will likely be some business done and a striker is one of the top priorities.
