Rasmus Hojlund scored twice to inspire Napoli to victory over Cremonese and continue his strong scoring form since leaving Manchester United for the Italian side.

The Danish striker’s brace brought his tally in Serie A to six in 12 matches, two more than he managed for United in 32 Premier League games last season.

Hojlund’s double earned Napoli three points and the Man of the Match award in the 2-0 victory at Cremonese on Sunday.

The 22-year-old ended his Old Trafford nightmare by joining Antonio Conte’s side on deadline day on loan with an obligation to buy.

He will sign for Napoli on a £38million permanent deal should they qualify for next season’s Champions League.

Hojlund has played 19 times for Napoli since moving to Italy, also scoring twice in the Champions League and in the Italian Super Cup.

He aimed a thinly-veiled dig at United after lifting the Italian Super Cup, his first trophy with Napoli.

Sharing a picture of himself with the trophy he accompanied it with the caption: ‘What a great decision looks like.’

Hojlund cost United £72m when he signed from Atalanta in August 2023. After a promising first campaign at Old Trafford, he struggled last term and was deemed surplus to requirements by Ruben Amorim.

The club opted to replace the Dane with £74m Benjamin Sesko, who has scored just twice since arriving from RB Leipzig.
