Manchester United fans booed head coach Ruben Amorim’s decision to substitute Alejandro Garnacho in the first half of the Red Devils’ win over Ipswich.
United scraped to a much-needed victory against the Tractor Boys, despite playing more than half of the game with 10 men after new signing Patrick Dorgu was sent off at Old Trafford.
Captain Bruno Fernandes created two of the goals, with Matthijs De Ligt and Harry Maguire on the scoresheet to add to a Sam Morsy own goal.
Jaden Philogene had netted twice for the visitors, meanwhile, who remain five points from safety following a disappointing performance and wasted opportunity to gain some ground on Wolves.
Still, United needed to work for their win with a man less, and Amorim decided to make a change in the first half to keep five defenders on the pitch when Dorgu was given his marching orders, and Garnacho was the fall guy.
The winger walked straight down the tunnel after being taken off just before half time, and then took to Instagram with and eyebrow-raising post on his account.

Amorim said that he ‘will talk with Garnacho about that [him going down the tunnel]’
‘You are making a connection with [Marcus] Rashford, right? I know, I know,’ Amorim said in response to a suggestion about Garnacho’s attitude after the game.
‘What I’m saying is I’m going to talk obviously with Garnacho about that [going down the tunnel]. So I will talk about that if you want in the next press conference.’
Pressed on why he chose to sacrifice Garnacho given he looked to be the only attacking threat for United, Amorim added: ‘The thinking was we were playing more in the 5-3-1 and I know that is a risk.
‘I felt the team was OK in controlling of the game and then you make the substitution and you have to choose someone to come out. It was my choice.’
Garnacho got on the wrong side of Amorim earlier in the season away to Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League.
In a story exclusively revealed by Mail Sport, Garnacho was axed from the Manchester United squad over a show of dissent towards Amorim.
It was revealed that the Argentina winger appeared to turn his back on Amorim and walk away while the United boss was giving him instructions on the touchline before he came on against Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League three days before the Manchester derby, for which he was dropped.
Representatives for Garnacho denied that he was being disrespectful and put it down to a misunderstanding but it remains a blot on his card since Amorim arrived.

Amorim compared Garnacho’s situation of that of Marcus Rashford, who was dropped over training standards

Fans also questioned the decision to take off the star – who had arguably been United’s most threatening attacker
Now, just days before an FA Cup tie against Fulham at Old Trafford, Garnacho’s behaviour is once again under the microscope.
Rashford, meanwhile, was dropped amid questions of his efforts in training, before leaving the club and joining Aston Villa on loan for the remainder of the season.
Fans questioned the call to withdraw Garnacho on social media, with one posting on X: ‘I’m starting to feel that Amorim doesn’t know what he’s doing. I beg you my finest pardon.’
Another wrote: ‘Don’t know if I would’ve taken off Garnacho.’
