England international Conor Gallagher is to stay at Atletico Madrid despite enquiries from multiple clubs, including Manchester United.

Around eight Premier League teams asked about Gallagher’s availability but Atletico were only willing to consider a permanent sale for the player they signed from Chelsea just last summer.

United and others were keen on a loan as the 25-year old has been on the bench for the past two games.

However, he is understood to be on a substantial wage in the Spanish capital and that with a transfer fee was considered too much to negotiate at this stage.

Everton and Crystal Palace had also asked about Gallagher earlier in the summer.

United were considering options, with Kobbie Mainoo keen to leave on loan.

Napoli expressed interest in Mainoo, but he is expected to stay at Old Trafford.

Mainoo missed United’s first two games of the season, before playing the full 90 minutes in the shock Carabao Cup exit away at Grimsby.

He then came on as a half-time substitute in Saturday’s 3-2 win over Burnley.

Meanwhile, Gallagher has come off the bench in Atletico’s last two matches, having being hooked after 45 minutes in their opening-day defeat at Espanyol.
