Manchester United were dumped out of the FA Cup last 16 by Fulham in devastating fashion as they missed two penalties to crash out of the competition they won last year.
Victor Lindelof and Joshua Zirkzee both saw their efforts saved in the shoot-out after United stumbled to a 1-1 draw over 120 minutes at Old Trafford.
Calvin Bassey had stunned the home crowd just moments before half-time as he opened the scoring with a header.
But Bruno Fernandes hit back in the second half with a superbly taken first-time shot with his left foot to instil the hosts with hope.
Alas, it was not enough for Ruben Amorim’s side as they could not hold their nerve when it mattered.

Manchester United were dumped out of the FA Cup on penalties by Fulham at Old Trafford

Victor Lindelof and Joshua Zirkzee saw their penalties saved by Bernd Leno after a 1-1 draw
Andre Onana – 7.5
Made two vital saves to deny Emile Smith Rowe from scoring a second Fulham goal. Has taken a lot of criticism of late but he was huge for United here.
Matthjis de Ligt – 8
Helped United with his long diagonal balls to get them up the pitch. Bailed out team-mates with a series of crucial tackles in the box. MOTM.
Harry Maguire – 6
Made a vital clearance with a flick of the toe to deny Rodrigo Muniz a shot on goal inside the six-yard box. Won’t be happy to see how soft United continue to be defending set-pieces, though.
Leny Yoro – 6.5
The Frenchman is making huge strides and now looks far more difficult for opposition strikers to bully. Did well to limit Rodrigo Muniz to limited chances before going off.

Noussair Mazraoui – 5
Was too far away from Calvin Bassey and reacted too late on the stroke of half-time as they took a 1-0 lead. Offers zero attacking threat as a wing-back.
Manuel Ugarte – 5
Some neat touches but he made a cynical foul on Andreas Pereira that clipped his wings before being the first substitution for Ruben Amorim. Booked.
Bruno Fernandes – 7.5
Has taken plenty of criticism from pundits but in this disjointed United display he was one who never stopped running. Has now had a role in United’s last seven goals.
Diogo Dalot – 6.5
Deserves credit for shutting Adama Traore down but must become more consistent going forward. His assist for Fernandes has to become the standard.

Joshua Zirkzee – 5.5
Spent far too much of this game on the periphery. Has been much improved of late, and did make a late flurry, but this was below the required level with United already so limited in attack.
Christian Eriksen – 6
Made a conscious effort to try and get Rasmus Hojlund more involved but it did not have the desired effect. Defensively disciplined performance to nullify Traore.
Rasmus Hojlund – 4
His goal drought extends to 18 games. Started with good energy but that soon vanished. Was no shock when he was hooked for 17-year-old Chido Obi.

MANAGER: Ruben Amorim – 6
Named only seven substitutes on the bench and used all of his outfield options to turn this one around. Is building a spirit that this underperforming group never give up, even losing this shootout.
SUBS
Alejandro Garnacho (for Manuel Ugarte, 53) – 7
Victor Lindelof (for Leny Yoro, 53) – 6
Chido Obi (for Rasmus Hojlund, 68) – 7
Casemiro (for Christian Eriksen, 68) – 6.5
Ayden Heaven (for Harry Maguire, 91) – 6
FULHAM (4-2-3-1)
Bernd Leno – 8
Spent so much of this game as a spectator before he was beaten by a pinpoint effort by Fernandes. Made a point-blank save to deny Alejandro Garnacho the winner with seconds left after 90 minutes. Came up big in shootout with two saves.
Timothy Castagne – 6
Was the busier of the two full-backs given he had to contend with the trickery of Garnacho in the second half. Lost that battle as the equaliser came down his side.
Joachim Andersen – 6.5
Felt like he was playing on easy street when he controlled compatriot Hojlund. Became much more ragged in the closing stages against Chido Obi. Booked.

Calvin Bassey – 7
A physical monster that made light work of Hojlund at one end and put Fulham on their way to victory with the opener at the other. Struggled marking Obi late on.
Antonee Robinson – 6
The Fulham captain is one of the best full-backs in the Premier League yet looked a shadow of himself here up against a really poor United side.
Sasa Lukic – 6
Wasteful on set-pieces and he struggled to get his foot on the ball the longer this low quality game went on. Felt he marked himself out of the game and hid from the ball too often when this got tight.
Sander Berge – 5.5
Neat and tidy but he never fully managed to get to grips with the fluidity of Bruno Fernandes’ movement. Was too stand-offish for the Man United captain’s equalising goal.
Adama Traore – 5
Can put genuine fear into opponents due to his pace but he was shackled by the teamwork of Diogo Dalot and Christian Eriksen. Went off through injury.
Andreas Pereira – 6
The former Manchester United player could be accused of trying too hard for large spells of this contest. Booked for dissent.

Alex Iwobi – 5
Got an earful from his manager on more than occasion for being second to too many 50/50 balls. Put in some inviting crosses but he was off the boil.
Rodrigo Muniz – 6.5
Started slowly but grew into the game and he made the decisive initial header that led to Fulham’s opening goal. Kept United’s back three busy.
MANAGER: Marco Silva – 7
Spent a lot of the first half complaining to the fourth official but he should have been more worried about how his side didn’t make their dominance count before United rallied back. Fortunate to edge shootout.
SUBS
Emile Smith Rowe (for Adama Traore, 53) – 5.5
Raul Jimenez (for Rodrigo Muniz, 90+2) – 6
William (for Andreas Pereira, 90+2) – 6.5
Harrison Reed (for Sasa Lukic, 101) – 6
Ryan Sessegnon (for Alex Iwobi, 107) – 7
REFEREE: Stuart Atwell – 7
Allowed the game to flow and made no glaring mistakes amid plenty of backchat from players on both sides. Was firm but fair on the night.
