Manchester City are close to agreement with Palmeiras for centre back Vitor Reis after a breakthrough in talks on Monday.
The 19-year old, who can also play right-back, is valued at £34million. City are also working to finalise a fee for Frankfurt striker Omar Marmoush this week and will sign Lens defender Abdukodir Khusanov.
Palmeiras president Leila Pereira had confirmed City made an official bid last week which fell short of their valuation but talks have continued.
Palmeiras were understood to be demanding £34m for the highly-rated defender, who turned 19 on Sunday but City’s need to strengthen their defence is greater as Kyle Walker pushes for his move to Milan.
‘There was an official proposal from Manchester City but we are negotiating. I will not talk about the amount but it did not reach what Palmeiras wants,’ said the Palmeiras president. ‘But I’m not in a hurry. Vitor still has a long contract. We’re talking and if we reach a value that’s good for Palmeiras, for the athlete and for Manchester, OK. But for now, nothing has been decided.’
Reis also has interest from a number of clubs in Europe, including Brighton who had a bid rejected at the start of the month.
