Former NBA star Patrick Beverley will not face assault charges after he was accused of choking and punching his own sister.

A grand jury in Fort Bend County, Texas determined there was not enough evidence to move forward with the case against the former Houston Rockets, LA Clippers and Milwaukee Bucks player.

His attorneys, Rusty Hardin and Letitia Quinones-Hollins, told TMZ: ‘Patrick wants everyone to know that he would never do anything to harm his sister and that he is very grateful that the grand jury has recognized that with their no-bill.

‘He is thankful for all who prayed for him and supported him during this time. He is glad that the process was allowed to work as it did and his hope is that with these charges behind him now, his name and reputation will be restored.’

The incident in November occurred after Beverley’s sister, a minor, left the family home in Richmond, Texas in the middle of the night without permission in order to see her boyfriend.

Beverley’s sister – whose name was redacted from police reports seen by Daily Mail – returned home, only for her mother Lisa to confront her. Lisa told her daughter to call the person she left to see and ask him to pick her up.

After the boyfriend – identified as Aiden Hilderbrand – arrived, Lisa invited him inside and brought him up to her daughter’s bedroom, according to police. Lisa then asked Patrick to visit the house and enter her sister’s bedroom.

According to police, Patrick began to yell at his sister and ask ‘what is wrong with her’ before he grabbed her by the neck and picked her off the ground.

The victim claims she felt pain and felt she was losing oxygen – saying Patrick squeezed her neck for between 20 and 30 seconds.

Patrick allegedly then pulled her out of the room, still holding her by the neck, and slammed her against the walls.

According to the probable cause affidavit, his sister tried breaking free by grabbing his wrists, before Patrick allegedly put her down on the sofa, stood on top of her, and then ‘punched her approximately one time on her left eye with a closed fist.’

The report also says that Beverley told his sister that ‘he will be the family relative to kill her.’

During this time, Lisa was allegedly in her room and told Hilderbrand to leave the house, which he did. Police say Patrick then followed behind him – later returning to tell his mother and sister that Hilderbrand had called police.

After authorities arrived and noticed marks on the neck and blood spots under the skin around her eye, Patrick was arrested. He was charged with one count of assault on a family member by impeding breath or circulation.

Since leaving the NBA in 2024, on the back of a controversial end to his spell with the Milwaukee Bucks, Beverley most recently played in the Israeli Basketball Premier League with Hapoel Tel Aviv.

Before departing Hapoel via mutual consent, he was suspended by the team for mocking his coach, Dimitris Itoudis, on social media after being benched during a championship loss in February.

Beverley was also sued by two women over a heated courtside altercation that occurred towards the end of his time in Milwaukee, which saw him take his anger out after a playoff defeat to the Indiana Pacers by throwing a ball towards rival fans and hitting a woman on the side of the head.

In response, Beverley admitted: ‘I have to be better, and I will be better. That should have never happened. Regardless of what was said, that should have never happened. Simple as that.’

The NBA issued a four-game suspension to him over the incident, which he is yet to serve after leaving Milwaukee on the back of that defeat.
