The work takes place over the first two weekends of September

Drivers are being urged to avoid a section of the anti-clockwise M60 around junction 19 at Middleton and Heaton Park for two weekends next month.

Maintenance work requires lane closures along the anti-clockwise carriageway on 6 and 7 September and again on 13 and 14 September.

Only one lane on the anti-clockwise carriageway will be open during these two weekends, with drivers advised to plan ahead and consider alternative routes including the clockwise M60.

National Highways programme delivery manager Mangat Bansal said: “We’ve worked really hard to minimise the impact of these roadworks on drivers’ journeys by doing most of the repairs overnight.”

He added: “This is the only phase of the project which will have an impact on drivers’ daytime journeys.

“While we’ve chosen the quietest part of the week, significant congestion at times is inevitable.

Waterproofing work

National Highways is delivering major wear-and-tear repairs on a bridge carrying the anti-clockwise carriageway over the River Irk near the exit slip road at junction 19.

The £1.3m scheme includes re-waterproofing the bridge on the anti-clockwise carriageway and installing new central reservation barriers.

The project is expected to be completed in November.
