Lucas Bergvall may have a sleepless night after scoring a comical own-goal against AZ Alkmaar in the first leg of the Europa League round of 16.
The match at AFAS Stadion began positively for Tottenham, who recorded two shots against their opponents, although none were on target.
However, following a swift attack from AZ Alkmaar, midfielder Peer Koopmeiners took a corner kick that became memorable for Bergvall’s hilarious own goal.
The Swedish youngster’s plans did not go well after he attempted to clear the ball from his team’s box but inadvertently ended up netting Guglielmo Vicario’s goal.
Spurs are set for a victory and qualification to the next stage amid a disappointing domestic season both in the Premier League and cup tournaments.
They currently sit 13th in the standings and have already been eliminated from the FA Cup and Carabao Cup following defeats by Aston Villa and Liverpool, respectively.

However, Ange Postecoglou’s men had a sufficiently good run in the Europa League, finishing in the fourth spot, following their five wins, two draws and one victory.
Their Premier League rivals, Manchester United, finished one spot higher and face a challenging away match against Real Sociedad in San Sebastian.
If Tottenham progresses further, they will face the winner of the clash between Ajax and Eintracht Frankfurt, which is scheduled for Thursday night.
Bergvall’s comical own goal came just moments after AZ Alkmaar’s winger Mayckel Lahdo was forced off the pitch due to an injury.
Postecoglou has started both newcomers Kevin Danso and Mathys Tel, with the Frenchman accompanied by Brennan Johnson and Son Heung-min in the top-three line.
