When it comes to anti-ageing skincare, there’s a plethora of products on the market aiming to target fine lines, wrinkles, dullness and dryness. As a 42-year-old, I’m keen to look after my overall skin health and seek affordable products that easily slot into my skincare routine. I look for skincare that helps with hydration, while also offering brightening benefits for radiance.

Enter L’Oréal’s age perfect range (created for mature skin and those in their mid-fifties and beyond). It claims to prevent future age spots and help reduce collagen loss. It also promises to improve skin texture and elasticity. I’ve put two of its key products to the test to see whether they’re worth your money.

Two key products in L'Oréal’s age perfect range are the micro-collagen firming serum and classic collagen expert day cream SPF30

L’Oreal age perfect serum

L’Oreal’s micro-collagen firming serum glides seamlessly. Initially, it creates a glassy finish before absorbing and leaving a lightweight layer, with no stickiness. It provided an instant boost of hydration and my skin looked more radiant, smoother and more even after application.

The formula contains glycerin and niacinamide to improve tone and texture. And while the collagen peptides in the serum are said to firm skin, I’d be sceptical of any topical skincare products claiming to be a magical wand for combating natural signs of ageing.

That said, the product offers a smoothing finish to help with the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. After using it for just a week so far, I’m impressed and will certainly continue to use it. At just £18, this is an affordable anti-ageing serum.

L’Oreal age perfect moisturiser

L’Oreal’s anti-ageing SPF has a rich, indulgent consistency which feels luxurious and comforting on skin. Its silky texture means the cream is easy to apply to the skin.

The key ingredients are the same as the serum, so I saw similar results (radiant and smoother), but slightly less glowy, as the sunscreen has a matte finish, which is perfect if you have oily skin.

The matte finish meant that my foundation stayed in place well, and it didn’t fade as much as it sometimes can after several hours’ wear.

To prevent any pilling after makeup application, I’d recommend applying lighter layers and leaving your skincare to absorb properly before applying foundation.

At just £16, this is another great, affordable skincare product for mature skin.
