- Olympics legend Liz McColgan has blasted trolls for body-shaming her daughter
- Eilish McColgan, 34, has received a string of messages attacking her slim figure
- ‘Stop the jealousy and abuse of women athletes’, Liz said in a furious post online
Liz McColgan has urged social media trolls to ‘stop the jealousy and abuse’ after her daughter Eilish received a torrent of body-shaming comments on Instagram.
Eilish, 34, posted a video on Sunday of her training on a treadmill as she prepares to make her London Marathon debut next month.
The Commonwealth 10,000m champion received a string of messages attacking her slim figure, with one user saying she was ‘anorexic’ and another claiming she looked ‘like a skeleton’.
Eilish highlighted some of the comments in a further post, writing: ‘Some people have no comprehension of how much you have to fuel your body to do this type of training. Bunch of clowns.’
That prompted her mum Liz, an Olympic 10,000m silver medallist and former world champion, to leap to the defence of her daughter, who she also coaches.
She wrote: ‘Stop the jealousy and abuse of women athletes online by posting ridiculous and stupid comments.

Liz urged she is not concerned about Eilish because she is a ‘strong’ character – but fears for all other female athletes who are receiving ‘stupid and ridiculous’ abuse on social media
‘My concern as a parent is not for Eilish as she is of a strong enough character to deal with these people.
‘My concern is for other kids, athletes that are not so strong of character, to deal with demeaning and abusive comments on their appearance.’
