Trey Nyoni has signed a new long-term contract with Liverpool, capping a breakthrough season for the highly-rated midfielder on the day he turned 18.

The England Under-20 international, who joined from Leicester in 2023, has made six senior appearances and played across various youth levels over the past two seasons.

He signed his first professional contract in October 2024, having already been involved in training sessions with the first team.

‘It means a lot, obviously supporting the club from young as well,’ said Nyoni.

‘So, it’s a great feeling. But now I have to go out and show why I’ve earned this contract. I think it’s just step by step, day by day, just becoming better every day, just improving as a player.

‘I’m still young, there’s a lot of improvement. That’s the most important thing. I just have to repay them in that way.’

Nyoni became Liverpool’s fourth-youngest debutant in an FA Cup win over Southampton in 2024 at just 16 years and 243 days.

Last season, he set another milestone, becoming the youngest player to feature for Liverpool in European competition during a Champions League clash with PSV Eindhoven.

Nyoni faces stiff competition in Liverpool’s midfield, with established names like Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliott, and Wataru Endo all competing for places.

He will also have fellow youngsters such as Stefan Bajcetic and Tyler Morton pushing for opportunities under Arne Slot.
