- It’s All Kicking Off!: Why can’t Chelsea win the league? They made seven changes and still scored five. Do you think Liverpool could do that?
Liverpool manager Arne Slot gave a hilarious response to journalists when asked about Virgil Van Dijk’s future in his pre-match press conference.
Van Dijk remains a player of key importance for Liverpool, but the defender’s future is uncertain, with his contract set to expire at the end of June.
Reports emerged this week that Liverpool have offered the 33-year-old a new deal.
According to The Athletic, Liverpool made an opening proposal to van Dijk which didn’t meet his expectations.
Fellow stars Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah are also nearing the end of their current deals at Anfield.
Slot, whose side are top of the Premier League, has frequently faced questions about the trio’s future.

Slot was asked about suggestions that van Dijk has been offered a new contract by Liverpool
That was the case again ahead of Liverpool’s game away to rivals Everton tomorrow.
Slot was asked by a journalist about the report that van Dijk has been offered a contract.
The Liverpool boss responded by saying: ‘What do you think the answer is going toi be?’.
The reporter then replied: ‘I know what the answer’s going to be but I’ve always got to check, haven’t I?’.
Slot joked that it was pointless for the journalist to ask such questions when the response is always the same.
Slot said: ‘Your boss is always telling you you have to check.
‘Maybe tell your boss that you always get the same answer so it’s a bit boring for the people to listen to the press conference.’
Slot has frequently been asked questions about Van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold
The journalist then said that the situation is similar to when Slot gives instructions to his players.
Slot’s response then prompted much laughter as he said: ‘I hope I give them better tips than the ones you get.’
Despite the uncertainty over whether van Dijk, Alexander-Arnold and Salah will still be at the club next season, Liverpool are faring very well so far this campaign.
Van Dijk has made 289 appearances for Liverpool since he joined the club in January 2018.
The Reds are currently seven points clear at the top of the table as they look to secure their first Premier League title since the 2019-20 season.
