  • Alexander-Arnold is seemingly edging closer to joining Real Madrid this summer
  • Liverpool are now seemingly dipping into the transfer market for a new full-back
  • LISTEN NOW: It’s All Kicking Off! Are Liverpool fans right to lambast Trent Alexander-Arnold?

Liverpool have reportedly held initial talks over the signing of Dutch full-back Jeremie Frimpong.

The right-sided Bayer Leverkusen wing-back or winger is one of Europe’s hottest properties and is understood to be of interest to the Reds, although sources have said talks are at an early stage.

Sources have told PA news agency that the obvious ‘domino factor’ that could accelerate Liverpool’s interest would be Trent Alexander-Arnold moving to Real Madrid, amid reports a deal has now been agreed for the England international to join the European champions.

Frimpong, 24, came through the ranks at Manchester City but has made a huge impression at Leverkusen since joining them from Celtic in 2021, helping them secure the Bundesliga title last season and reach the Europa League final.

Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea are also understood to have expressed an interest in Frimpong.

He was also part of the Netherlands squad which reached the semi-finals of Euro 2024.

Liverpool have been approached for comment.

Reds supporters have already taken to social media to try persuade Frimpong to join the club.

Following a post in which the Dutch international mocks an influencer for his extreme morning routine, Reds fans flooded his comment section asking him to join the club.

‘We need a right-back mate, can you fill in?,’ one wrote, while another replied to the post: ‘I’ve seen enough. Join the Reds’.

Some supporters seemingly believe the position would be Frimpong’s to fill, as one wrote: ‘Come to Liverpool, there’s a vacancy’.

During the international break, a video posted on the Netherlands national team’s YouTube account showcased Frimpong greeting Liverpool star Ryan Gravenberch.

The full-back, who reportedly has a £33million release clause, displayed his finest impression of a Scouse accent as he hugged the Reds midfielder, and supporters lapped it up.

‘Jeremie Frimpong, the future Scouser in our team? I mean he the potential and comes with a release clause of €40M,’ wrote one Liverpool fan account.

If Frimpong were to make the move to Merseyside, he would face serious competition from a certain Northern Irishman.

Many see the current heir to the right-back position, if it indeed does become vacant, as Conor Bradley. The 21-year-old has regularly stepped up when Alexander-Arnold has been absent from the team.

Whether Frimpong ends up donning red or not, Alexander-Arnold’s potential departure will still be a significant blow to Liverpool, if it comes to fruition.

Not only has he risen through the ranks, but he is viewed as one of the best full-backs in the world. After joining their academy at the age of six, the defender made his debut as an 18-year-old in an EFL Cup tie against Tottenham in 2018.

He has since gone on to rack up 349 appearances and has been a cornerstone in Liverpool’s immense success over recent years.

Across his time at Anfield, Alexander-Arnold has scored 22 goals and added 87 assists. Meanwhile, the defender – who has won eight trophies with his boyhood club – was appointed as vice-captain in the summer of 2023.
