Lions quarterback Jared Goff baffles fans with bizarre ‘sunburned’ mark in Christmas nightmare… but there is a VERY simple explanation

Last season, fans were concerned with a dark red mark on Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff’s forehead. The mark returned on Christmas Day.

When Goff was spotted on the sidelines during Thursday’s game against the Minnesota Vikings, he was seen with a strip of red skin on his face.

Some fans took this to be a sunburn mark due to how dark and striking the signal caller’s skin was.

One fan even commented, ‘Why does Jared Goff have a single strip of sunburned skin across his forehead?’

But, it turns out that Goff didn’t spend too much time in a tanning bed.

Much like last season, the explanation for why the veteran quarterback’s skin looked that way was due to an important piece of equipment.

Football fans were concerned by a bright red mark on the forehead of Lions star Jared Goff

But it turns out, this was just a mark from the quarterback's helmet that he wore in the game

It was a bad game from Goff as he committed five turnovers - including three fumbles - in a 23-10 loss to the rival Minnesota Vikings that eliminated Detroit from the playoffs

The likely culprit for the mark was the padding inside his helmet. It was the case last year and it’s the same reason this year.

Goff is not the only one to suffer from this on a national stage.

Peyton Manning had a similar issue during his playing days, often removing it to talk to television cameras and revealing what almost looked like a burn mark from it pressing against his head.

Unfortunately, the dark mark on Goff’s head wasn’t the biggest concern the signal caller had to deal with on Thursday.

Goff put up one of the worst performances of his NFL career as he committed an irredeemable five turnovers in a 23-10 loss to the Vikings. The Cal alumnus completed 18-of-29 passes for 197 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.

But the pressure from Minnesota’s defense led to three forced fumbles that Goff could not recover.

This meant that despite out-gaining the Vikings in total yardage by a mark of 231-161, Minnesota stayed in excellent field position thanks to Goff’s errors.

The defeat also statistically eliminated the Lions from the playoffs just one year after they clinched the No. 1 seed in the NFC.
