  • Only horse to ever win three consecutive Melbourne Cups

Australia’s racing community has been plunged into mourning following the death of legendary Melbourne Cup champion Makybe Diva at the age of 26.

The iconic mare died on Saturday morning after suffering a sudden colic attack, bringing an end to the life of one of the greatest racehorses in Australian sporting history.

Makybe Diva remains the only horse ever to win three consecutive Melbourne Cups, achieving the unprecedented feat in 2003, 2004 and 2005 in a period of dominance that elevated her into racing immortality.

The racing world is mourning the death of legendary mare Makybe Diva who won three Melbourne Cups in a row

Her historic triumphs at Flemington captivated the nation and established her as a once-in-a-generation champion whose record still stands untouched two decades later.

She formed a famous partnership with jockey Glen Boss, who rode her in each of her Melbourne Cup victories, including her unforgettable third win in 2005 when she carried a record weight to victory before being immediately retired.

Beyond her Melbourne Cup heroics, Makybe Diva compiled one of the most remarkable résumés ever assembled by an Australian racehorse, winning a string of elite races including the Cox Plate, Sydney Cup, Australian Cup and Turnbull Stakes.
