Free commemorative scarves handed out to Leeds supporters celebrating their promotion from the Championship have been listed for sale online, with some priced at a more than £400.

There was a jubilant atmosphere at Elland Road on Monday night as Daniel Farke’s played their first home game since their return to the Premier League was confirmed.

The league leaders secured a thumping 4-0 win over Bristol City in a game that was marked by the enthusiastic waving of special edition scarves handed out to fans ahead of the fixture.

The item features the club’s iconic ‘smiley’ crest that adorns their away kit. Included are the words ‘at least until the world stops going round’ – lyrics from the side’s anthem.

Scores of supporters, and even the players after the match, waved the scarves in celebration of Leeds’ achievement. However, a number of them have now been listed for sale online, with one item on eBay going for £516.

The standard price for the scarf on the online marketplace ranges between £15 and £30, however a number of listing are greatly inflated.

On Monday night, with their 28th league win of the season, Leeds went back ahead of Burnley on goal difference thanks to goals from Ao Tanaka, Wilfried Gnonto and a late brace from substitute Largie Ramazani.

Farke’s side need to match the result of the Clarets when they take on relegation-threatened Plymouth Argyle in the final game of the season on Saturday to be confirmed as champions.

The German, who could be replaced as boss despite their promotion to the top flight, said after the win over the Robins: ‘I don’t need public backing (from the chairman). This is one of the most important days in our history.

‘I wanted to bring this club back to the Premier League. The next step is to establish us there.’
