Half term week saw the launch of ‘Endeavour’ to the St Paul’s community. The multi-agency event brought local families and key partners together for Halloween themed fun.
Games, hot dogs, a football cage provided by The Rock and visits from local PCSOs, the council’s anti-social behaviour and community investment teams, Aspire Foundation and Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue all took place in and around St Paul’s community hub.
Endeavour is a new initiative led by Cheltenham Borough Council, Gloucestershire Constabulary and other key partners, designed to drive out crime and anti-social behaviour in identified areas, creating safer, happier and healthier local neighbourhoods.
Councillor Victoria Atherstone, cabinet member for safety and communities said: ‘’It’s great that so many families came along to our Endeavour event in St Pauls. There was a true sense of community spirit and positive interaction with the local community, the council, police and fire services which really helps to build relations, remove barriers and open up conversation to support the future prosperity for this neighbourhood.
‘’Through Endeavour and better partnership working, we are striving for more equal access to vital health and wellbeing services, education and jobs opportunities and fun leisure activities. This also means we are all working together, to drive out crime and anti-social behaviour to create more positive opportunities for everyone.’’
Inspector Steve Benbow from the Cheltenham Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “We’re pleased to be working alongside partner agency colleagues to help make the St Paul’s area the best possible community to live in.
“I attended the event along with members of the team and it was great to see local residents getting together and having a lovely time.”
Police and Crime Commissioner, Chris Nelson added: “Endeavour is all about creating crime-free communities that can be happier, healthier and more prosperous.
“This event was about building up the community and coming together and I thank everyone for their hard work to make it happen”.
Notes
Endeavour is Gloucestershire’s approach to Clear, Hold, Build. St Paul’s and The Moors are the two areas identified to be a part of the initiative in Cheltenham.
Clear, Hold, Build is a three-stage approach to reducing crime and anti-social behaviour. The council, police and other partners aim to clear criminal gangs from local communities, hold the area to prevent other gangs from moving-in and then build for a better future. Clear, Hold, Build has already been adopted in other parts of the country.
