Lamine Yamal has shed light on his audacious effort which hit the crossbar in the final moments of Barcelona’s 3-3 draw with Inter Milan on Wednesday night.

There was nothing to separate the two European giants in their Champions League semi-final first leg – as Barcelona twice came from behind to earn the draw.

Yamal, 17, stole the headlines with his dazzling display on the left-wing for Hansi Flick’s side and topped off his evening with a sensational goal in the first-half.

Furthermore, he twice came close to doubling his advantage after hitting the crossbar in both the first and second half of the clash.

His first effort saw him shimmy past Inter’s Federico Di Marco and leave the full-back in a heap on the floor before seeing Yann Sommer tip his effort onto the woodwork.

In the second-half, he saw a bizarre looped effort land almost directly on top of the crossbar and bounce away – with team-mate Raphinha lurking just beyond.

Fans were left divided as to whether Spanish star Yamal was intending to shoot or cross the ball to his Brazilian team-mate and now the Barcelona star has revealed the answer.

He was interview by CBS Sports after the match and Kate Abdo was on hand to translate the forward’s comments.

She explained: ‘He said, the truth is that I didn’t see Raphinha. He was trying to shoot’.

The teenager was showered in adulation from pundits watching on, with Rio Ferdinand claiming that Yamal is already the best player in the world.

‘As a pure football talent I’m going as far as to say I think Lamine Yamal is on another level to any player playing the game in the top 5 leagues in world football,’ Ferdinand wrote on X.

’17yrs old – Truly unbelievable.’

Speaking on co-commentary for TNT Sports, Ferdinand was blown away by Yamal’s fearlessness as he grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck and consistently made things happen for his team.

After Yamal scored and then hit the bar shortly afterwards in the first half, Ferdinand exclaimed: ‘This kid the taking the mick. He is taking liberties on the biggest stage.

‘Every time Barcelona get the chance to open them up, they look to the youngest player in their team.’

Ferdinand added further praise after full time, as he admitted it was a privilege to watch Yamal in the flesh.

Ferdinand told TNT Sports: ‘We were sitting just behind where Yamal was doing his damage and mesmerising the stadium, the amount of times he had the ball and impact the play, every facet was on show and it was beautiful to be here and be a part of.’
