In the Los Angeles Lakers most recent game against the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday night, shooting guard Austin Reaves wore something specific to help complete a gender reveal.

Austin’s brother, Spencer Reaves, and his wife Casey are expecting a child but were not aware whether the baby was a boy or a girl.

The star Laker and soon-to-be-uncle took to the court wearing his typical uniform with one special exception: his shoes.

When he took to the court, Reaves stepped out wearing pink and white sneakers from Chinese shoe brand Rigorer, who he has been signed with since 2022.

On the Lakers broadcast, the announcing team pointed out the intention behind Reaves’ wardrobe choice.

‘Take a look at Austin’s shoes. Now, this is a gender reveal for Austin’s brother Spencer and wife Casey,’ the broadcast team said. ‘You can tell they are pink. Austin is an uncle-to-be. This is how they were going to find out.’

The broadcast team added that Spencer, who played college basketball at Central Missouri and currently plays for Mitteldeutscher BC in the German Basketball Bundesliga, may not have seen the announcement in real-time due to the time difference.

But Spencer did see the news in real time and posted on social media about the reveal.

‘Appreciate you!,’ he posted to X, formerly Twitter. ‘We didn’t know Austin would be so pumped to do this. He’s known for weeks. Maybe he got Luka [Doncic] on board as well with his shoes tonight.’

The occasion may have been inspiration for Reaves – who dropped an impressive 24 points, four rebounds, and five assists in the 120-119 win over the Pacers.

Doncic led the way with 34 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists. Meanwhile, LeBron James dropped 13 points – including the crucial buzzer beater to win the game and snap a three-game losing streak for the Lakers.
