New York Knicks guard Jalen Brunson helped power his team to its first NBA title in 53 years by playing through some serious pain.
On Tuesday, it was revealed that Brunson underwent surgery to repair a tendon issue in his left hand and left wrist – his shooting hand – according to multiple reports.
Recovery will take a number of weeks, which could delay the start of his preseason routine.
Brunson received the procedure at New York City’s Hospital for Special Surgery.
Despite this significantly painful injury, Brunson still managed to drop an astounding scoreline in the decisive fifth game of the NBA Finals.
With an injury to his shooting wrist, Brunson still shot 14-of-27 from the field and dropped 45 points along with three rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Brunson had been dealing with discomfort throughout the Finals, which briefly impacted his shooting in early games.
But as the tournament dragged on, Brunson managed his way through the pain and rode wave after wave of adrenaline.
In the finals, Brunson averaged 26 shots per game and 11 makes to shoot 42.1 percent from the floor – just below his season average of 46.7 percent.
He still managed to score at least 20 points per game – including 36 points in the Knicks’ wild Game 4 comeback.
For his efforts, Brunson was named the Finals MVP and cemented himself as a New York basketball legend.
