The Kansas City Chiefs are moving on from offensive tackle Jawaan Taylor, releasing him from the team, according to multiple reports.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Taylor will be released before the start of the league year – barring a trade for him being completed.

In doing so, Kansas City clears the $27.4million of cap space they initially owed Taylor.

The Chiefs initially signed Taylor in free agency in 2023 to a four-year, $80million contract. That deal included an opt-out clause which creates roughly $7.4million in dead cap space.

Taylor would have been owed $19.5million in base salary next season – plus other incentives and re-structuring to total $27.39m.

If he hadn’t been cut, Taylor was set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of this upcoming season.

Taylor was a second-round selection of the Jacksonville Jaguars with the 35th overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft out of the University of Florida.

The 28-year-old lineman was named to the PFWA’s All-Rookie Team in his first season and started every single regular season game at right tackle across his four years with the Jaguars.

Taylor eventually joined the Chiefs in 2023 and was part of the team’s victory in overtime over the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII. He was also a starter in the Chiefs’ horrific showing against the Philadelphia Eagles the following season in Super Bowl LIX.

In 2025, Taylor was a starter in all 12 of his appearances with the Kansas City Chiefs before he was placed on injured reserve after hurting his elbow.
