Kansas City Chiefs general manager Brett Veach made a boisterous prophecy about Travis Kelce’s upcoming 2025 season that sounded a bit contradictory.
Veach has seen Kelce rise into one of the greatest tight ends in NFL history, with a regression in almost every statistical category in 2024, amid a rise in mainstream interest in Kelce due to his relationship with Taylor Swift.
After a second offseason with Swift on his arm and opportunities outside of football continuing to rise, how one of the Chiefs’ best players will fare this fall will be unique if it’s up to Veach.
‘You’ll see Travis have more of an impact,’ Veach said this week, per the Kansas City Star. ‘Maybe it’s not in production but it’s the offense [overall].’
Kelce’s production and age, as well as the slight changes in play style from superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes, have led to a domino effect for his favorite target.
The changing roster and expectations, and therefore play style will be ‘much different in the past when it always kind of ran through Kelce,’ Veach continued.

Kelce’s influence has helped elevate the pass-catchers around him over the years, such as Tyreek Hill, and currently Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy.
The future Hall of Famer always got his moment to shine bright throughout the season despite that attention, until last season.
‘The numbers won’t be the same, I mean, you have to acknowledge a certain aspect of that, right?’ Veach added about Kelce’s stats.
‘I don’t know if I look at it in terms of, like, expectations for yardage or touchdowns or catches. I think that when he’s on the field now, he makes us better. And I think that he’s also a guy that makes the people around him better.’
‘And when you have a guy that’s that connected with a quarterback, it’s almost like a little bit of him and Pat [are] a conductor for everybody else.’
Kelce still has been involved in nearly every offensive snap despite his age. Reid has not put a known snap count on his star tight end yet.
Veach stated that possibility, to try and maximize the time with Kelce left as ‘a great question for coach [Andy Reid].’
