The New York Jets will be without their starting quarterback Justin Fields on Sunday as they seek their first win of the season against Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Fields is absent after getting conussed in last weekend’s emphatic 30-10 loss to the Buffalo Bills.

‘When it comes to injuries, one person that I can just say ‘out’ right now will be Justin,’ coach Aaron Glenn said Wednesday. ‘He is still going through his protocol.’

The news means that Tyrod Taylor will start against the Bucs but also marks a deepening trend acorss the league with starting quarterbacks getting hurt.

Joe Burrow, of the Cincinnati Bengals, is out until December with turf toe.

Minnesota Vikings starter J.J. McCarthy has an ankle sprain and while the extent of his time on the sidelines is still being determined, he’s definitely absent for Sunday’s game, coincidentally against the Bengals.

The fixture becomes the battle of the backups, with Jake Browning deputizing for the Bengals against Carson Wentz.

Elsewhere, Jayden Daniels could be missing the Washington Commanders due to a knee sprain. Marcus Mariota could play instead against the Raiders in Las Vegas.

The San Francisco 49ers, meanwhile, go into a second game without Brock Purdy, who is recoving from a shoulder issue. The organization fear he could miss up to five games but Mac Jones made sure he wasn’t missed too badly last Sunday in a win over New Orleans Saints.
