- Jurgen Klopp offered the chance to be introduced to Red Bull’s racing team
- The 59-year-old is set to assume his new position at Red Bull on January 1
Jurgen Klopp has been offered the chance to get acquainted with Red Bull’s Formula One team as he prepares to take up his new role at the Austrian company.
After nearly a decade on Merseyside, Klopp announced in January that he would depart Liverpool at the end of the 2023-24 campaign after admitting he was ‘running out of energy’.
Amid speculation that he would step away from football entirely Klopp instead joined Red Bull as their ‘Global Head of Soccer’ in October.
This role will see Klopp be responsible for the international network of all football clubs at Red Bull – including Leipzig, Salzburg and the New York Red Bulls.
He’ll be required to advise the clubs on coaching matters, playing philosophy, development and transfers of players and head coaches.
Ahead of his start date on January 1, Red Bull racing advisor Helmut Marko hailed the appointment as ‘sensational’ and insisted he would ‘love’ to introduce the 57-year-old to the company’s motorsport offerings.

Max Verstappen hailed the move when it was announced, insisting Klopp would be ‘great’ for the company’s football interests
He also stated his admiration for the Champions League-winning coach and insisted the move was perfect for Red Bull.
‘I just don’t know how he wants to combine it all, these different continents and the like,’ Marko told TL reporter Felix Gorner.
‘But since football is very important to us, I think that was the best move that could have been made.’
After Klopp’s new role was announced four-time Formula One world champion and Red Bull racing star Max Verstappen hailed the appointment as ‘great for the whole organisation’
‘I knew already for quite a long time that they were talking and it was close to being signed,’ Verstappen told Sky Sports.
‘I think it’s great. Red Bull is investing a lot also in football with the teams they have and there is a lot of talent that has come through already.
‘With someone like Jurgen in charge from the top, he has a lot of experience, and he has managed a lot of great clubs. It’s great for the whole organization.’
