Jurgen Klopp will not be making a return to management this summer with Red Bull rubbishing reports that he could leave his role as their Global Head of Football.

Klopp was appointed in that job with the Austrian company in January 2025 – signing a five-year contract.

The remit of his role sees the 58-year-old overseeing the fortunes of RB Salzburg (Austria), RB Leipzig (Germany), New York Red Bulls (USA) and Bragantino (Brazil). However, reports in Austrian publication Salzburger Nachrichten claim that the German is seeking pastures new with the quartet of clubs having achieved little success since his arrival.

They add that things are particularly rife at RB Leipzig, with the club currently fifth in the Bundesliga and in a four-team tussle to secure one of the likely two qualification spots for the Champions League next season.

Salzburger Nachrichten conclude that Red Bull would not stand in Klopp’s way should he wish to return to coaching in the summer – with outgoing Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner already lined up as his replacement. Glasner has previously worked at RB Salzburg as an assistant manager between 2012-14.

When asked about that report on Thursday, Red Bull CEO Oliver Mintzlaff shut it down and branded it as ‘complete nonsense’.

‘That is complete nonsense and entirely fabricated,’ Mintzlaff was quoted as saying by a number of outlets,’ he told Sky Sports Germany.

‘On the contrary: we are extremely satisfied with Jurgen Klopp’s work. He invests a great deal of effort, is in constant communication with our coaches and sporting directors, and is sustainably developing our Red Bull football philosophy.

‘We are convinced that he is the right man for this job. That is where we are placing all of our focus and energy.’

Klopp has not been in a managerial dugout since leaving Liverpool at the end of the 2023-24 season, citing that he needed to take a break. He has since been linked with a number of jobs this coming summer, including Real Madrid.

Speaking last week, Klopp’s agent revealed that he was approached by Manchester United and Chelsea as well as by England the USA to become their manager once he left the Reds.

‘Before joining Red Bull, Jurgen could have coached the USA or England,’ said Klopp’s long-term representative Marc Kosicke in an interview with German website Transfermarkt.

‘Probably also Germany, if Julian Nagelsmann hadn’t already been there.

‘Even Chelsea and Manchester United inquired, although Jurgen had clearly stated that he would not coach any other club in England. These enquiries keep coming.

‘He’s extremely happy with what he’s achieved. And it’s still wonderful to go down in history as one of the few coaches who only managed three clubs and were never fired.’

When approached for comment, both Chelsea and Manchester United denied the agent’s claims.
