John Terry’s daughter begged him not to post a video of him watching Chelsea’s defeat by Arsenal in a full club tracksuit which has seen him roundly mocked.

The Blues legend shared his agonised reaction to Chelsea crashing out of the Carabao Cup semi-finals on TikTok on Tuesday night.

Terry, 45, was in disbelief at Kai Havertz’s 97th-minute goal being onside and expressed his dismay at Chelsea losing 4-2 on aggregate to their London rivals. Just moments before, he thought they might equalise.

In his video, Terry is admonished by his daughter, Summer, 19, who says ‘don’t put that anywhere please’ after he turns the camera towards her on the couch, while she tries to cover her face.

‘Don’t put that anywhere dad,’ she says, laughing slightly, before the England legend hits back: ‘Say sorry.’ Summer does so, but continues: ‘You’re not putting that anywhere.’ Terry insists: ‘I am.’ Summer persists: ‘You’re not.’

In Terry’s defence, Summer has not always sought privacy, building a public Instagram profile with almost 54,000 followers. She has previously played in Chelsea’s youth academy and enjoys coaching kids’ football.

She has a twin brother, Georgie, and they were born to Terry and his wife Toni in 2006. They were gifted matching Mercedes by their parents when they turned 17.

Terry told his 454,000 TikTok followers after Havertz’s goal: ‘Offside, offside anyway. Offside. Surely he’s offside. That’s the end of our cup run. Surely he’s offside.

‘Not a bad performance from us but didn’t really look like scoring all night to be honest and Arsenal have done what they needed tonight.’

Havertz’s goal stood and so Liam Rosenior was dealt the second defeat of his reign – both by Arsenal – after six wins.

Mikel Arteta will have the chance to lift the second trophy of his Arsenal reign next month – six years after his first in the FA Cup – and will meet either Manchester City or Newcastle in the final.

Arsenal fans milked Terry’s pain, with one sharing the video and writing: ‘Thought Kai Havertz scoring would be the best thing I watch tonight but here’s John Terry recording himself thinking Chelsea will score only for Kai to win it. In his full Chelsea tracksuit ahaahhahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahah.’

‘Why would he even post this? Like he had the option to press post,’ another said.

‘His daughter asks him over and over not to post,’ one pointed out.

‘Bro went through all five stages of grief,’ another quipped.

‘Can someone let him know he’s still not offside?’ one joked.

Terry’s instinct in the heat of the moment was understandable; Declan Rice had bent a beautiful pass round the back of Trevoh Chalobah, with Havertz in acres of space, leading to his assumption, but in truth the German was comfortably onside.

The former Chelsea captain at least had an explanation for the tracksuit.

He wrote: ‘I’m not sitting at home in my Chelsea tracksuit, got back earlier from our Youth League Game vs PSV which we won on penalties.’

Chelsea’s U19s secured progression to the UEFA Youth league last 16 after beating PSV 7-6 in a nail-biting penalty shoot-out following a 1-1 draw.

Terry works part-time as a mentor in Chelsea’s academy at Cobham. He has given up hopes of being a senior boss in the Premier League or EFL, saying last year: ‘I’m done in terms of coaching. I’m enjoying my life, I’m working in the Chelsea academy.

‘My role’s a part-time role, I love working with the kids, I love passing on my knowledge and experience to those boys.

‘I don’t really coach at the moment, I’m a mentor, ambassador.

‘I went for a couple of jobs and those days are gone for me. I’m enjoying my life a little bit, I’ve got my time to myself, I play a bit of golf, I’m in the academy and I have some family time as well.

‘It’s a really good balance for me.’
